🛠️ The Tools of the Trade

Curated list of the gear (hardware and software) I use for music production, sound design, video-making and teaching.

I am not sponsored by any of these brands; these are the tools I've chosen for my own studio.

Every item here is something I’ve personally tested and stand behind.

Gear I use and recommend

Macbook Pro M4 Pro

The centerpiece of my studio, handles all my music and video production tools and apps like VST's, Gig Performer, Logic, Final Cut, OBS and more.

Roland Fantom 7EX

Roland's flagship workstation, my general purpose standalone keyboard. Sounds great, looks great, works great. Undisputed champion of UX/UI.

Arturia Keylab 61 (Mk II)

The MIDI controller of my choice for my upper keyboard. I have used and trusted Keylabs for the past 10 years now. * Mine is a Mk II (better looks imho)

AKG K72 Headphones

Entry-level closed-back headphones. The EQ is flat enough, and it covers your whole ear, sitting around them without pressing / causing pain.

Roland KC-400

Multi-channel keyboard amplifier, a solid choice with 4 stereo channels, good low end, pre-fader line-out. Substitutes a mixer + DI boxes + return speakers.

Yamaha DBR12 PA Speakers

Powered, bivolt, 2 XLR combo jacks, and have a good angle when on the floor, so they're also great as return cabs.

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2

The usual choice for audio interface. Mine is an older (2nd gen) 2i2. My voice is captured by the MKE-600 going into the Scarlett.

Senheiser MKE-600 Microphone

The shotgun microphone I started using in 2025 to record my voice, which can be used via XLR +48v or battery-powered.

Sony ZV-E10 (Mk I) Camera

The 4k mirrorless camera I started using in 2025 mostly for the front angle in my videos. Mine is the Mk I.

Roland Pedals - Sustain, Expression and Volume

DP10 has an anti-slip rubber (!!!), the EV-5 does the job fine, and the FV500 is built like a tank + has adjustable pedal feel (looser or tighter).

Ulanzi D200H

Customizable switcher for seemless video and streaming workflow. The Chinese clone of Elgato Stream Deck.

Elgato Camlink 4K

Capture card that lets me use my ZV-E10 camera as a webcam, connected to my Mac via USB.

Software / Plugins

Arturia V Collection

Extraordinary collection of VST's. Software recreations of classic synths and keyboards. I've been a user since V Collection 5 in 2016. MASSIVE fan.

Hammond B-3X

The king of all Hammond emulations. Made by IK Multimedia

Lowdown

The king of all Moog Taurus emulations. Made by Cherry Audio.

Oberheim OB-X

The official OB-X plugin by G-Force, sounds great and has good built-in effects.

PPG Wave 3V

Digital / Analog hybrid from the mid 80s, iconically present in the Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows albums by Rush

Microwave 1

The modern 'rightful heir' to the PPG legacy. Includes the original PPG Wavetables and is more reliable than the Wave 3V plugin.

Gig Performer

The best DAW for live performance available today, which I use to create setlists and layouts (splits / layers) of my sounds. Works with Windows and Mac.

Logic Pro

One of the most popular DAW's for recording and producing music in the world. I like the workflow.

MainStage

Popular live performance DAW for Mac. I have used it for years but I'm gradually transitioning to Gig Performer.

Others

OBS Studio

Free and open source video / audio workstation for recording / streaming multiple sources at the same time. Makes my life way easier.

Final Cut Pro

Apple's video editing software, which I use every week to edit my videos.

Chordie App

Virtual keyboard / MIDI visualizer I use to record videos for Youtube and lessons for my course.

Music Teacher Studio

Awesome app with many music visual aids I am using to teach and record videos.

Loopback

Cable-free audio routing software for Mac. Superbly versatile. Prevents headaches.

Payhip

The platform I use to host this very website / store in. I tried many before and this one is by far the best for my use.
